Assignment:
the World: This weekly news program covers world and national
events and explains why those events are important. A:TW encourages a greater
understanding of current events, serves as the basis for class discussions
on news happenings, and sparks curiosity in the individual student to
learn more about whats going on in the world. Check the Instructional Resources Web site for A:TW scripts and student activities for each
weekly program. The site has current scripts, lesson plans, and on-line
video archived programs.

section with special lesson plans about conflict resolution, peacekeeping,

American Stories companion Web sites. Content has been indexed by classroom
subject and is arranged by lesson plan title with appropriate grade levels
and a brief overview of each activity.
While these curriculum materials weave together video and online resources
with an instructional strategy, the lesson plans may be used in conjunction
with a particular PBS series or adapted for use as a stand-alone resource.

and Reading Rockets called Put Downs and Comebacks helps you boost
confidence in your students. When children struggle in school, its easy
for them to get discouraged and put themselves down. They might think
they will never learn to read or that they are just dumb. To help respond
to such put-downs, Reading Rockets has developed a great new online activity
for caring parents and teachers. Put Downs and Comebacks explains
what may be behind such statements and what you can say or do to encourage
