These Reading is Fundamental Professional Development Programs
are designed especially for all of you teachers, administrators,
childcare providers, librarians, and other professionals
to support you in your efforts to help children become lifelong readers.

motivate school-age children to read regularly.
Episode Descriptions
1 Setting Stage Reaveals why it's important to create
a print-rich environment for children; ideas for incorporating literacy-related
activities and interactions into daily life; and practical suggestions
for setting up the home to support children's explorations with language,
print, and wrinting.
2 Conversation Discusses the key role od conversation between
young children and adults in developing children's oral language skills;
prime opportunities for engaging in conversations with children; element
of language-enriching conversations; and suggestions for helping children
become active participate in conversations.
3 Reading Aloud Covers the importance od reading
aloud to later reading success; good read-aloud strategies; ways to select
books that respond to children's developmental and individual skills and
interests; and strategies to extend the read-aloud experience.

of early reading and writing development; developmental stages of learning
