Assignment: The World
Getting
students to think and speak knowledgeably about the world around
them can be difficult. They may not readily identify themselves
as being part of a much larger universe. Students are not only members
of a class, they are citizens of their towns, of their country,
their state, the United States, and the world. For over twenty years,
Assignment: The World (ATW) has prompted fourth through sixth grade
students to think beyond the boundaries of their own classrooms.
This weekly news program covers world and national events and explains
why those events are important. ATW encourages a greater understanding
of current events, serves as the basis for class discussions on
news happenings, and sparks curiosity in the individual student
to learn more about whats going on in the world.
