This series explores the lives of young people living in countries around the world from the perspective of a young visitor. An excellent program for learning about other cultures. These programs take your classroom on a trip to that country!

Use them to compliment a social studies or geography unit. Comprehensive study guides include curriculum standards.

 

Episode Descriptions

1 David in Canada — David visits his pen pal, Keven, in a rural part of Quebec. The boys help local fishermen unload their catch. They go camping, observe elk and bear in their natural environment, visit an Indian village to learn traditional customs, and play hockey. 2 Isabelle in Mexico Visiting the Mayas — Isabelle is a young girl who, with a Mayan guide, visits a Mayan family in the jungles of the Yucatan. She plays with the Mayan children, helps harvest corn, sees bows and flint-tipped arrows made my hand, helps grind grain to make tortillas and observes the Mayan's culture and their concern for their changing environment. 3 Julia in Greece — Julia travels to various Greek Islands with a family friend. In Greece, she meets several other children who give her Greek lessons, take her to see volcanoes and festivals. They help harvest vegetables, crush grapes for wine, and are treated to traditional old-fashioned bread baking by a Greek grandmother. (20:30) Study Guide

4 Luke and Alexander in the Amazon — The natives of the Amazon Rain Forrest teach us about their games, how to hunt, and other interesting things about their way of life. (16:30) Study Guide

5 Naomi in Israel — Naomi visits her aunt and uncle who live on a Kibbutz Baram. During her stay, she takes part in the day-to-day life of the community —going to school, feeding the farm animals, harvesting fruit, joining in the festivals and living in the shadow of the neighboring countries. 6 Xavier in India — With an Indian boy as their guide, Xavier, his brother and sister explore Benares, learn about the many activities that take place at the Ganges River and take a rickshaw ride to the city's outdoor flower market. (18:25) Study Guide
