Portrays three monumental speeches by three great men in
our American history: Abraham Lincoln, Patrick Henry and George Washington.
These speeches are read by such famous stars as Charlton Heston and William
Shatner.
Episode Descriptions
1 Lincoln's Gettysburg Address Original art,
archival photographs, and re-enacted battle scenes trace the breach between
North and South, the elections of 1858 and 1860, and highlights of the
Civil War from its beginning to the Battle of Gettysburg. The program
concludes with a distinguished reading of the famous speech. Reading by
Charlton Heston.(14:57)
2 Patrick Henry's 'Liberty Or Death' The historic events
preceding the occasion of Patrick Henry's ringing call for independence
are reviewed. The Boston Tea Party, the Quartering Act, and the Boston
Massacre are among the developments that are recreated. The program's
conclusion features an impassioned delivery of the immortal speech. (15:56)
3 Washington's Farewell The context in which Washington
offered the enduring wisdom of his Farewell Address is presented. The
domestic and international highlights of his administration, reflected
in the Address, are reviewed. The program concludes with the delivery
of the better known portions of the speech. (16:02)
