Prairie Public announces the 14th Annual
Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest!

Hey Kids! Thanks for submitting your stories to the
14th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest!

Click here to see all of this year's winners!

Children from kindergarten through third grade are encouraged to write and illustrate their own stories for the contest, which is conducted in cooperation with local PBS stations across the country. Every child who enters will receive personalized, positive feedback and a Certificate of Achievement signed by LeVar Burton, host of "Reading Rainbow."

Every classroom that participates enters a drawing to win one of ten Reading Rainbow backpack literacy kits for its school. Each literacy kit contains an episode of "Reading Rainbow" on DVD, the featured book, and a list of activities related to the episode, all in a multi-colored child-sized backpack.

Stories will be judged locally. Local first place winners will receive prizes, have their stories featured on Prairie Public's Web site, and advance to the national level.

The deadline to submit stories was March 17, 2008.
