About The Film

The Farmer's Wife tells the story of Darrel and Juanita Buschkoetter and their children, a young Nebraska farm family facing incredible challenges and showing heroic perseverance. Their struggle to keep their farm becomes a struggle to keep their marriage and this film records the tragedy and triumph of both struggles.

Buschkoetter's update

Darrel and Juanita Buschkoetter, the Nebraska farmers featured in the critically acclaimed "The Farmer's Wife", have become an inspiration for many struggling farmers across the nation. Shortly after the film debuted

, Darrel and Juanita appeared at three Agriculture forums in North Dakota as part of "Pulse of the Prairie" seminars. "Farmer's WIfe" filmmakers David and Nancy Sutherland were also on hand to offer their insight into this remarkable "real time" documentary.

The Buschkoetters also appeared on Praire Public TV's half hour talk show, "PlainsTalk", during their trip to North Dakota. The Show aired on November 18, 1999 across North Dakota and in parts of Manitoba, Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota.

Darrel and Juanita say going through the hard times and making the film has strengthened their marriage, and in fact, may have saved their marriage. But they say their family farm operation is by no means guaranteed survival, despite experiencing better financial times now than during filming.
