About The Documentary

Production for The Germans from Russia has taken crews on journeys just as long as the migrations told of in the film. In an effort to fully illuminate both the Ukrainian/Russian experience and the Great Plains experience of the ethnic group, crews filmed in Ukraine, Russia, Germany, the Alsace region of France, California, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota.

The making of the film has been a four year odyssey that began with Michael Miller's suggestion that the NDSU Libraries and Prairie Public work together on a Germans from Russia documentary. Miller, Germans from Russia Bibliographer with North Dakota State University Libraries and co-executive producer of the film says the completion of the documentary is a dream come true.
