An Ultra-Modern Water Treatment Facility Is Unveiled in 1997

Construction Materials

  • 29,300 cubic yards of concrete (enough to pave 8 miles of city streets)
  • 3,700 tons of reinforcing steel (enough to build 925 Interstate bridges)
  • 1,300 tons of structural steel (enough to build 16 Interstate bridges)
  • 277 piers, each drilled 100 feet deep, to support the building
  • 400,000 bricks (enough to build 33 homes)
  • two 16,738,000 BTU/hour boilers (largest boilers in North Dakota)
  • 1,283,040 feet of electrical wire (enough to stretch from Fargo to Minneapolis

Water Treatment Plant Staff:

  • 13 operations staff - 2 operators on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • 5 maintenance staff - responsible for maintaining building, equipment, pumps, computer control system and heating/ventilation/air conditioning system
  • 2 laboratory staff - monitor water quality and compliance
  • 2.5 administrative staff - city engineer/utilities, water superintendent and secretary
