Milkey in 1953

Henry Milkey, Minot Model '53-Henry was the catalyst behind Minot Model's back-to-back state champions in 1952 and '53. A tall guard for his day, 6-foot-2, Henry went on to a record-breaking career at Minot State and a distinguished 30-year career as a referee of North Dakota high school basketball. Henry is retired and lives in Minot with his wife of over 40 years. They have two children.

David "Butch" Lince, Mott '62-Butch was the unstoppable inside force for Coach Jim McPherson's back-to-back state champions in 1961 and 62. A stellar athlete, Butch went on to win nine letters at UND and played on one of the Sioux's greatest basketball teams with a guy named Phil Jackson. Butch then played professional football with the Philadelphia Eagles. After football, he settled in the Dayton, Nevada area with his wife and three daughters. "Butch" passed away in December 2001 following a short illness.

Jerry Pyle, Casselton Central Cass '68-Jerry's 102 point, 59 rebound performance at the 1968 State "B" remains one of the most dominant in state tournament history. The 6-foot-7 Pyle went on to play basketball at the University of Minnesota. Jerry now lives in West Fargo with his wife and two children. He works at prestigious Great Plains Software in Fargo.

John Rygg, Mayville-Portland '72-John's 34 for 47 shooting percentage from the field at the '72 State "B" is one of the best shooting performances in state tournament history. He went on to a standout career at Mayville State and in amateur basketball. John is married, has two children and lives in West Fargo. He works at ArtCo in Fargo.


Guldseth in 1988

Scott Guldseth, Edinburg '88-Scott dominated the 1988 State Tournament like nobody before or since. His complete floor game included dominating inside play and sometimes leading the fast break. Scott played college basketball at Louisiana State University and at UND on North Central Conference championship teams. Scott recently completed his master's degree in Psychology at Syracuse University in New York and is planning on settling in the Twin Cities area.
