or argue with him
Don't beg or plead.
Don't moralize
Don't ask questions
Don't apologize for being
there
Don't comfort him/her if
he/she cries
Don't demand confessions
Don't diagnose or judge
Don't compare him/her to
others
Do begin each statement
with love and concern
- Use positive points
whenever possible
- Look at him/her when
you speak
- If you cry, stop, collect
yourself...continue on. If you can't, motion for next person in
line to begin. We can always come back to you.
Remain CALM
A time limit may be needed
depending on how many people are participating in the intervention.
- If fewer than 6 - no
time limit will be needed, although 5 minutes should be enough for
everyone.
- If between 6 and 9 people
- 5 minutes tops.
- If between 9 and 11
people - 3 minutes.
