Where should a business start when promoting a new website?

  • How big of a market do you want to promote in?
    Local, Regional, Worldwide

Once these questions are answered, you need to create a marketing plan.

  • Include web address on all print materials
  • Include web address as a trailer on all tv and radio commercials
  • Online promotion such as banner ads

  • Link swap or reciprocal links
  • Register in search engines and directories
  • Email newsletters/mailing lists (www.cnn.com/email)
  • Online giveaways (www.abcseamless.com)

How about online promotion?

  • Banner ads - be sure to have a call to action (www.in-forum.com)
  • Success is based on both click through % and brand awareness
  • Always ask for monthly reports from the site you are purchasing your advertising from

Is there value in reciprocal links?

  • Increase traffic
  • Raise standings in search engines
  • Be sure to incorporate a links section in your website (www.fm-arts.com)

What about online directories?

  • Great way to increase traffic
  • Be specific on where you register in them (dolls, porcelin dolls)

Let's look at Yahoo….

  • Yahoo is one of the largest directories on the web
  • Great traffic, many people use it as a resource
  • It is not a free service in the business directory anymore

What about Search Engines?

  • Search engines have become the most popular way to find a site
  • Customers will try your name as the domain, if not there, they will try a search engine
  • Besides your name, key words are important too, if a visitor doesn't find you, they will find your competitor

How can you boost your placement?

  • Metadata like metatags (www.dakmed.org)
  • Proper content on the home page
  • Your company name on the title bar (www.fm-arts.com)
