High Tech Center Creates Rural Opportunity
When
you think "high tech center" it's safe to say that Maddock,
ND (populations 559) is not the first place you think of. But this tiny
community in rural North Dakota is home to a high technology business
center designed with high speed Internet access in mind as an enticement
to future minded businesses.
The town will celebrate its centennial in July 2001 but unlike many small rural communities, its focus is forward rather than fixed on the past.The center, which was funded by a grant and community funds, represents the hope of the community to create a digital future. "We've integrated business and agriculture together," said Larry Faleide, Maddock Community Development Corp. "which is where agriculture has to go."
While waiting for their first technology client, the center houses the town's only radio station, which was built from a kit by hobbist Terry Hermannson, and 00 Web Design, a group of young entrepreneurs who maintain the community's web site. The center also houses computers that provide free Internet access to anyone in the community
