Seasonality

Because of the current low level of infrastructure and support, eco tourism will be most sustainable if it grows incrementally as the demand grows. The peak times for eco-tourism in our region will be spring, summer, and fall in timing with bird migrations, seasonal changes, and other natural indicators. The most critical issue facing most eco-tourism sites in the state will be assuring that seasonal closings of food and lodging facilities will take new "shoulder season" activities into consideration and will remain open longer and in the fall and open earlier in the spring. Guided tours and incredible natural opportunities won’t succeed in attracting visitors if there are no accommodations and restaurants available in nearby communities.
