adequate yearly progress
In North Dakota, under the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act, a school is identified as making “Adequate Yearly Progress” for achieving the following criteria:

  • Achievement. Any school whose students’ scores on the ND State Assessment in either reading or mathematics meet or exceed the State’s annual performance goal for the composite and for each subgroup, considering statistical reliability.
  • Participation. At any school whose student participation rate in the North Dakota State Assessment meets or exceeds 95% for the composite and for each subgroup, considering statistical reliability.
  • Attendance. Any elementary school whose students’ attendance rate meets or exceeds 93%, the State’s identified rate, considering statistical reliability.
  • Graduation. Any high school whose students’ graduation rate meets of exceeds 89.9%, the State’s identified rate, considering statistical reliability.

Consequences of failure to make Adequate Yearly Progress are proscribed, specified sanctions that increase in severity for schools and districts that continue to not make Annual Yearly Progress..
