nd kids coalition - lawsuit
In 2003 a complaint was filed by the Williston Public School District alleging that the ND education finance system provides inadequate funding and unfairly and arbitrarily results in widely disparate funding, inequitable and inadequate educational opportunities, and unequal and inequitable tax burdens.

The same year, nine school districts joined together and formed the ND Kids Coalition which also filed a lawsuit. Today the ND Kids Coalition represents school districts in Bismarck, Cavalier, Des Lacs-Burlington, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Edgeley, Ellendale, Fargo, Grafton, Harvey, Hatton, Jamestown, Larimore, Lisbon, Mandan, Midway, Minot, Northern Cass, Northwood, Park River, Stanley, Surrey, TGU, Thompson, Valley City, Velva, West Fargo and Williston
