no child left behind
In January 2002 President George W. Bush signed his education reform bill, the No Child Left Behind Act. By all accounts, it is the most sweeping education reform legislation since 1965 and dramatically increases the role of the federal government in guaranteeing the quality of public education for all children in the United States.
The No Child Left Behind Act emphasizes:
- Increased funding for poor school districts
- Higher achievement for poor and minority students
- Measures to hold schools accountable for student progress
- Expansion of the role of standardized testing
