Bulimia has many serious
health risks. Self-induced vomiting can and does:
- damage the esophagus
through irritation and inflammation due to repeated
exposure to stomach acid
- cause fatal rupture of
the esophagus
- cause chronic
gastritis
- result in dehydration
due to loss of water and electrolytes
- produce potassium loss
which can result in cardiac arrhythmias and even cardiac
arrest, resulting in death
- erode dental enamel
and accelerated tooth decay
- cause gum
disease
- lead to chronic bad
breath
