Timing is Every Thing Grief is not contained by time or place. It doesn't run on a schedule. Some say that we never "get over" a loss; simply, that with time, we adapt to the loss and build a new life. While we can expect to each
feel many of the same emotions, each grief experience is unique, measured
by personality, coping behaviors, and the relationship with the person
who has died. Spiritual beliefs and support systems, or the lack thereof,
will also influence how long grief continues. Many professionals now disregard
the old Kubler-Ross theory of the stages of grieving and the final "acceptance"
of what happened. Some grieving may last for years. It will take different
forms. It will last as long as it needs to for you. Missed A Program? Healthworks on Videotape |
