Immigration

People from many countries immigrated and settled in the plains and prairie of North Dakota. Those who shared a common language and traditions often settled together, forming ethnic communities that still exist today. Others, arriving in smaller numbers, contributed their talents and traditions to the region's development and its character.

Individually and communally, historically and still today, people adapted to new lands and changing times while continuing traditional ways of celebrating holidays, preparing food, and keeping heritage alive for the next generation.
