As in immigrant patterns from the pioneer past, a group of nine moved en mass from East Dubuque, Iowa to Beulah, ND in 1982 and '83. Recruited by a "head hunting" firm charged with getting the gas plant fully staffed, a group of three made a trip to Beulah to check out the situation. The plant impressed the group, and the Beulah/Hazen area had promise. But it was the lake around Pick City and the fishing it offered was the final determinant. After seventeen and one half years at a gas plant in Iowa, three employees left-The move was a good one. The new facility had all new technology which meant growth opportunities and a chance to learn…and a chance to recruit. One after the other within a 12 month period, nine co-workers and their families made the move to Beulah. The move was a good one, not only from the career perspective, but from a lifestyle perspective as well as one relates, "I just kind of fell in love with the place. It was low crime, it was low traffic. The summers up here are just to die for." Of the nine original immigrants eight remained with their families. And their children grew up and graduated and married local men and women and stayed in the area - either in Beulah/Hazen or in Bismarck or Dickinson. Looking back one of the nine says, "I don't think I could have made a wiser decision in my professional life than I made here. It was probably the smartest thing I ever did."
