Ranching as a lifestyle
The Tradition/Keeping the Ranch in the family
In interview after interview, the theme emerges the value placed
by current ranchers on keeping the ranch "in the family". The tradition
of conserving and making better and passing on to the next generation
is as strong now as it ever has been. Yet many ranch families struggle,
and some don’t really see a way that their children can continue the
multi-generational heritage. Talking about taking a "9 to5" job off
the ranch, "selling out" and moving to town, and other options that
may become necessary are hard to face and even harder to discuss.
