The Place
Why North Dakota?
Cropland and pastures cover about 90 percent of North Dakota’s total
land area. While the land in western North Dakota is not rich enough
for many crops, it is particularly conducive to raising cattle because
the grass produced in the area is exceptional. There is less snowfall
in the western part of the state, and because there is less precipitation,
the grass is finer, shorter, and more nutritious.
