12. -1857- Colonel John Abercrombie

In 1857, Colonel John J. Abercrombie built the first military fort in North Dakota at the place where Major Samuel Woods left a marker. Two years later, a stage company carried mail and passengers between St. Paul, Minnesota and Fort Abercrombie, North Dakota.
