Northern Pacific & Red River
For
nearly ten years after the Northern Pacific Railroad reached Fargo,
fifteen different steamboats traveled the Red River
carrying
lumber, livestock, threshing machinery, farm equipment and general
supplies. Commercial steamboating on the Red River came to a close
in 1877, as the gasoline engine took the place of steam power on
the Red River.
