Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus)

The Great Horned Owl is the largest eared owl in North America. Owls can see at night, so they are nocturnal--meaning they are active only at night. Special feathers that eliminate wind noise allow owls to move through the air without making a sound. This feature makes it easier for the owl to catch its supper of small rodents--such as rabbits--and sometimes even other birds or ducks.
