About This Program

Jackie Dohn Mass

Jackie Dohn Mass of Plymouth, MN always regretted that no on taught her how to make the sumptuous picles she enjoyed as a child and so she taught herself. Now she's pickling up a storm with recipes like Grandma Lorraine's German Russian tradition, Watermelon Pickles, made with the red flesh of the watermelon not the white rind as in the more familiar but less flavorful Scandanavian version.

A native of Jamestown, North Dakota, Jackie traces her family roots back to Bessarabia and Southern Russia. Jackie is a member of the Verrueckte Frauen (Crazy Women) a group of women who meet monthly to practice traditional recipes and celebrate their German Russian heritage.
