North Dakota education studied in new Prairie Public documentary

FARGO, N.D., September 1, 2006 — Prairie Public followed the North Dakota state and local school boards as they re-examined the policies and funding of our schools and created a documentary that gives new insight into the struggles faced by education systems.

EDUCATION: NORTH DAKOTA'S CHALLENGE, NORTH DAKOTA'S FUTURE explores the issues confronting the K-12 education system in North Dakota. The locally-produced program will premiere Thursday, September 7, at 8:00 p.m. (CT).

The program will be rebroadcast Sunday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m. (CT).

Among the questions posed by producer Kim Stenehjem when creating the documentary are ‘What are rural communities doing to provide a quality education in times of dwindling funding?’ and ‘Are our traditionally high education standards slipping?’

“The questions cannot be answered simply,” said Stenehjem. “Evaluating and modifying the system is an ongoing process. This production does reveal some alarming statistics — but also encouraging news — that keeps the public informed about the school system they support and the school system their kids attend.”

Funding for EDUCATION: NORTH DAKOTA’S CHALLENGE, NORTH DAKOTA’S FUTURE is provided by USDA Rural Development and the members of Prairie Public Television.

Prairie Public Broadcasting is a non-profit television and radio network that provides a wide range of education, technology and entertainment services to communities, schools and individuals.
