"Actual Settlers"

In April 1895, The Fargo Forum reported: ...the
Great Northern railway took a train of 405 people, actual settlers, not
excursionists, to the Red River Valley and the Turtle Mountain country
of North Dakota. They occupied nine coaches, and their household effects
and farm implements filled several long freight trains.
We believe this to the largest movement of settlers to a new locality
that has taken place in one body for several years, the report continued.
The people composing this colony are known as Dunkards, or German
Baptists, and come mainly from Indiana, with a few from Ohio, Kansas and
other states... This is the second party of these people to locate in
North Dakota, 235 having gone there last spring in one body, and their
report being favorable this train was the result.
