Representatives from North and South Dakota met on this day in 1927 to discuss the possibility of the Missouri River Diversion project. The group of over one hundred and fifty toured the state over a period of three days, stopping at various project sites along the way. Representatives included the North Dakota Governor, both Senators, the State Representative, and State Engineer. The educational tour began in Jamestown, traveled north through the valleys of the James and Sheyenne Rivers, and ended at Devils Lake on July 10. Meetings and picnics were held along the way, and featured several speakers. The topic of discussion centered on the feasibility and benefits of the proposed diversion project, which would ameliorate the flooding episodes suffered by residents living downriver.
