"Fargo/Winnipeg Airmail"

The first airmail flight from Fargo to Winnipeg was made on this day
in 1927. Three Fargo men made the international flight, carrying two thousand
letters. Pilot Verne Roberts was accompanied by L. A. Ward, representing
Fargo Mayor Dahl, and Harvey Kepler. Kepler, a member of the Fargo Aeronautics
Club, won the seat on the small plane by selling one hundred and fifteen
memberships in the club. The plane transported the two thousand letters
to postal representatives in Winnipeg. A congregation of Canadian officials
and residents met the plane, and the fliers were honored at a special
reception there. Earlier in the week, Roberts completed the first airmail
flight to St. Paul from Fargo. Fargos attempts to secure regular
airmail service for the area proved successful and were applauded by both
the cities of St. Paul and Winnipeg.
