CNN Wraps up Red River Valley Flood Reporting
Saturday, April 14, 2012
CNN was wrapping up coverage of Red River Flooding on this date in 1997. The network reported about the process of post flood clean-up. Public Works manager Dennis Wallaker, who would later become Mayor, said he was “optimistic that the worst was over for North Dakota’s largest city.”
Intensive national scrutiny of the swollen Red River that year allowed the world an unprecedented look at the natural disaster.
Subsequent floods were not as destructive. But, during the spring flood of 2009, CNN highlighted the valley once again by airing a flood video made by Evan Amundson, an 11-year old Fargo boy, about how he, like many kids, were coping with being stranded from school.
