“Hollyhocks and Grasshoppers” ~ “Proving Up the Welk Homestead” ~ Little I Livestock Showposted on 02/18/2014
Tuesday, February 18 – Hollyhocks and Grasshoppers is an anthology of stories – memories shared by members of the North Star Chapter of Germans from Russia. Voices of the past shine through, capturing the immigrant experience. Joining us are members of the book committee, Carol Just and Nancy Gertner. ~~~ Tom Isern, NDSU professor of history, shares the story of a German from Russian in today’s Plains Folk essay called “Proving Up the Welk Homestead.” ~~~ Ashley stops in at the 88th annual “Little I” livestock show. ~~~ Chuck Lura has another Natural North Dakota essay, on the Eurasian Collared Dove.
