Public Defender Monty Mertz ~ Child Passenger Safety ~ Commuting to the Bakken

posted on 02/19/2014

Wednesday, February 19 – Monty Mertz is the supervising attorney for the Fargo public defender’s office. He’s here to discuss over-criminalization and over-incarceration, plus the challenges faced by immigrants who find themselves embroiled in the legal system, including language barriers. Finding translators for these immigrants can be a challenge. Mertz is an alum of the UND school of law. ~~~ It’s Child Passenger Safety Month in the state of North Dakota. Here with some reminders is Carma Hanson, coordinator with Safe Kids Grand Forks. ~~~ We resume our rebroadcast of the NPR series on “The Great Plains Oil Rush” with a look at the interesting phenomena of long-distance commuting to jobs in the oil patch. Kirk Siegler has the story. ~~~ Also from NPR, Renae Montagne interviews Christopher Leonard, author of “The Meat Racket.”
