Spiritwood Ethanol Plant ~ Protest Over Oil Trains ~ Michigan ND Rail Wreck Remembered ~ News Chat

  Friday, August 9 – Groundbreaking took place today for a $150 million ethanol plant in Spiritwood. Here to tell us about this major project is Lyndon Anderson, North Dakota communications supervisor at Great River Energy; and Doug Goering, ND agriculture commissioner. ~~~ Moving Bakken crude to Northwest ports by train has become a hot issue, spawning protests in Washington State. We get a report from Martha Baskin of Green Acre Radio. ~~~ On this date in 1945, a terrible train wreck occurred in Michigan, North Dakota. Joining us to discuss that event is UND professor of physics, George Bibel, author of “Train Wreck: The Forensics of Rail Disasters.” ~~~ A discussion of the recent headlines with news director Dave Thompson. ~~~ Matt Olien has this week’s movie review, “The Way, Way Back.”
