“The Bakken Formations: Tales from the New West” ~ Reflections on the B-52 ~ The Dakota Grown Initiative

posted on 06/09/2014

Monday, June 9 – The Bakken Formations: Tales from the New West, is a collaboration between composer Fritz Myers and playwright, Clare Drobot. It’s a combination of text and music following the lives of people in North Dakota’s Bakken Oil Fields, and it’s being staged in New York City, with the help of crowd-source funding. ~~~ The B-52 bomber has had a long history flying out of bases in North Dakota, most notably as part of the cold war. It’s an aircraft with a long history and we hear more from Scott Simon, host of NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday. ~~~ Holly Rose Mawby is director of the Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture at Dakota College at Bottineau. She joins us to talk about the Dakota Grown Initiative. ~~~ Tom Isern has this week’s Plains Folk essay, “A Thousand Years.”
