Christmas and Holiday Travel Destinations!

Are you in the holiday spirit? Travel during the Christmas season is fun and exciting, with many special elements added to already great destinations.

In the region of our radio listeners, you can visit Medora North Dakota this weekend for the 17th Annual Old Fashioned Cowboy Christmas. Enjoy special food and a Christmas performance of Dakota Air the Radio Show.

A perennial favorite is a visit to New York City with its spectacular window decorations, tree at Rockefeller Center, Nutcracker ballet at Lincoln Center, and the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall! A couple of area tour companies schedule trips each annually for these treats, including chestnuts roasting on an open fire! It’s fun to skate in Central Park or at Rockefeller Center!

Consider a yuletide trip to Williamsburg. Enjoy the Grand Illumination of Williamsburg’s historic Area. Visit Christmas Town at Busch Gardens with 6 million lights and lively shows. I love the traditional door decorations, using natural items like oranges, and the evening firelight caroling. Historic homes are decorated, and fire lit evening programs warm your spirits.

Disney World is a great place to be during the holidays! Enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom theme park with jolly holiday parades, fireworks and live entertainment. The decorations have the delightful Disney flare!

You can venture overseas and take a fantastic land or river cruise tour to see the Christmas markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The land tour includes the Christmas markets of Vienna, Munich, Innsbruck, Lucerne and Zurich. You’ll also visit Oberammergau, home of the famous Passion Play. A river cruise visits many of these cities and includes the Christmas markets.

Join a tour of English Stately Homes at Christmas. The tour includes London’s Christmas lights, Blenhiem Palace, and Stratford-upon-Avon where you see Shakespeare’s birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s cottage festooned with Christmas decorations. Additional stops include magnificent Chatsworth House and the Wedgwood Fine Bone China factory.

Branson, Missouri, offers a five-day Musical Holiday tour with great Christmas music including the 12 Irish Tenors,Clay Cooper and Six.

This is Katherine Satrom for the radio service of Prairie Public wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
