Valentine’s Day Travel
Valentine’s Day is coming up and you still have time to make plans to celebrate with your Valentine! Plenty of places in our region offer special Valentine’s Day packages.
In Medora, enjoy a night at the luxurious Rough Riders Hotel, and receive a $50 gift card for Theodore’s Dining Room. Remember the romance between the Marquis de Mores and Medora Von Hoffman!
In the Twin Cities, the Sofitel offers up a package called Magnifique Romance – in English, magnificent romance. The Sofitel Romance lovers package includes:
-a bottle of champagne on ice delivered to your room
-a romantic gift of chocolate or flowers upon your arrival for your shared pleasure
-a delicious breakfast service in your room each morning
-the luxury of time, with a late check-out of 4 p.m.
I like the way Sofitel describes their international Valentine’s options: “Enjoy magical moments in magnificent places around the world. It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. Share special time together . . . savor intimate dinners . . take sunset strolls and moonlight walks. Delight in the luminous glow of Paris or Bangkok . .. explore the history of Rome or Budapest ..bask in the legnds of Aswan or Hanoi . .. thrill to the excitement of Shanghai or New York . . . relax near soothing lagoons in Bora Bora or Mauritius (mo ree’shus) . . . marvel at the sights and sounds of Marrakech or London. “
The Fairmont Winnipeg offers a “Kiss & Wake Up” package. The package includes:
-one night’s accommodation for two
-a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries on arrival
-breakfast for two in The Velvet Glove restaurant, or in your guestroom
-self parking for one vehicle
-late check out of 3 p.m.
Also in Winnipeg is the historic Fort Garry Hotel, originally built as a Grand Trunk Pacific Railway hotel in 1913. Dine at the Palm Lounge which features local jazz, and enjoy the spa. The hotel’s Romance Package – available year around – includes a night’s accommodation with breakfast for two in bed or in the Broadway Room, a bottle of champagne, and a deluxe fruit and chocolate basket. Price varies as to date, but on Valentine’s Day with a king bed the price is $239.
Consider the historic St. James Hotel in Red Wing, Minnesota. Throughout February, you can enjoy a “Be Mine” Valentine’s package. Included is:
-accommodations in a romantic Victorian guestroom
-four-course Valentine’s Dinner at The Port Restaurant
-wine pairing with your Valentine’s Dinner

This package starts at $269.
One of my very favorite hotels is The St. Paul Hotel in the heart of Minnesota’s capital city. Their Cupid’s Special – and excellent – rate for Sundays in February is $129 plus tax and includes deluxe accommodations and a bottle of champagne upon arrival.
A favorite spot in the Red River Valley is the Hotel Donaldson with its Hodo Restaurant in downtown Fargo. A Valentine’s special includes a room with a King or two Queen beds, chocolate covered strawberries, and your choice of red or white wine, all served in your room Enjoy this package on Valentine’s Day for $189 plus tax.
Take your sweetheart by the hand and travel to a romantic, close-to-home Valentine experience!
A Million Thanks
