Song of India
A blog update from producer Bob Dambach
June 2nd 2009
If you ask me what the Song of India, or at least the Song of Delhi, was I’d have to say the sound of a car horn honking.
The traffic flow is nothing short of amazing. The drivers have to be as skilled and aggressive as any NASCAR driver just to survive. As a matter of fact I don’t know if a NASCAR driver would be able to last 10 minutes before getting into a crash. I’ve driven in New York, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. I’ve hid my eyes, as Ukrainian drivers would pass slower moving vehicles at high speeds never caring if there was oncoming traffic. I’ve dodged the kamikaze, sidewalk-riding, red light ignoring motorcyclists of Rome. But never have I experienced anything like the drivers of Delhi. They have nerves of steel, ESP-like anticipation, the luck of the Irish, an almost certain death wish and a heavy foot as they put the “pedal to the metal” and a hand to the horn. As a passenger I’m still winching from the numerous near fatal episodes that we missed experiencing by an eyelash. Saturday morning driving the uncrowded and unhurried streets of Fargo-Moorhead was my moment of Zen.
Now sit back and enjoy the streets of New Delhi …
Don’t forget to buckle up.
