This online collection is
only a fraction of the 3,500 quilts documented by the North Dakota Quilt
Project. Volunteers are needed to help enter more quilts into the database.
Won't you please volunteer?
How can I volunteer?
If you would like to donate
a little time to help build our online collection, please click
here and complete the secure registration form with your name,
contact information, and the number of quilts you would be willing
to "adopt." In about 10 days, you will receive photocopies
of the documentation sheets and a password that will allowaccess to
our online database.
Can I request a special area?
Yes you may. If you tell
us on the registration form which North Dakota county you live in
or have ties to, we will try to send you quilts from that area. Keep
in mind that someone might have already have completed that area so
we will send you a nearby area -- otherwise we will make every effort
to accommodate your wishes to record your local area's heirlooms.
Do I need any special equipment?
You will be able to do
the data entry through the Web. You do not need any special software
or special equipment. You may use any computer with an Internet connection,
and either Internet Explorer version 4.0 or above or Netscape Navigator
version 3.0 or a newer version of either browser.
How long does it take?
Everyone's typing skills
are different, but on average, it takes about 3 minutes per quilt
to enter all the data about it. There are no deadlines for completing
your assignment but as any quilter knows -- the sooner begun, the
sooner completed.
Do I have to live in North
Dakota to volunteer?
We will be glad to accept
volunteers from anywhere.
Can
I add my family's quilts?
Yes, you are very welcome
to submit newly discovered family heirlooms. In order to qualify for
the North Dakota Quilt Project, the quilts must have been made before
1960 and have a connection to North Dakota -- either the maker or
owner lived in the state. You will need to complete a documentation
form for the quilt and take three photographs of the quilt. Send an
e-mail message to project coordinator Kim
Stenehjem at isqs@ndquilts.com for more details.
