A traditional craft goes high tech
The North Dakota Quilt Project is online

How many old quilts are there in North Dakota? From 1987 to 1989, the Quilters’ Guild of North Dakota traveled the state to find out, and now the information these dedicated quilters gathered is online. The database on the web site contains descriptions and photographs of the quilts, as well as information about when, where, and how the quilt was made, and about the quilt's maker.

The North Dakota Quilt Project couldn’t locate every treasured quilt in the state, of course. But the project did document and photograph over 3,500 quilts. The industrious undertaking culminated with a centennial quilt show, "A Century of Quilts," which traveled North Dakota in 1989. Since then, those involved have been working toward the final goal of the project: gathering all the information into an online database that would easily accessible to the public. More than 100 selected quilts have been added to the database and volunteers are transcribing more on an ongoing basis.
