Fargo, N.D., October 15, 2021—A Prairie Public original production has been honored with a Midwest Regional Emmy® award, which recognizes excellence in television and is dedicated to advancing the art and science of television.

The short feature titled "Wild Rice" won an Emmy® award in the historic/cultural short form category. The video profiles how wild rice on the White Earth Reservation has sustained its people for thousands of years and features Winona LaDuke, a ricer her entire life, describing the harvesting, threshing and parching process. The video was produced by Andy Garske.

I am incredibly proud of the work our staff is doing to chronicle our region's distinct history and culture,” said Prairie Public President and CEO John E. Harris, “and we are all honored that Prairie Public is being recognized for excellence by the television industry.”

The production can be seen on Prairie Public's YouTube channel and the PBS Video App, and was funded by The Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and by the members of Prairie Public.
