Prairie Public has won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

Written by news director Dave Thompson, the story “How Dickinson State University lost the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library” was awarded for Feature Reporting in the Small Market Radio category in Region 4, which includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

In the story, Thompson reported on the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library that is set to open in Medora, North Dakota, in 2026. Planning was underway for the library to be located on the campus of Dickinson State University, but the location was moved to Medora when then-Governor Doug Burgum became involved with the project.

"I knew Dickinson State University was preparing to host the Theodore Roosevelt library on campus, and there was excitement about it. Then the decision was made to move it to Medora,” Thompson said. “I felt the story of that decision should be told."

Since 1971, RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards.

The regional awards are announced throughout the month of May. All regional winners advance to the National Murrow Award competition in August.
