Alicia Hegland-Thorpe has joined Prairie Public as the co-host of Prairie Public’s “Main Street,” the network’s public affairs radio show. She and co-host Ashley Thornberg chat with newsmakers and discuss issues concerning the prairie region each weekday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Hegland-Thorpe brings years of broadcast savvy, and a sincere curiosity and concern for the North Dakota community, to “Main Street.” Her first experiences in broadcasting were as an overnight radio personality at two small stations, the first in Williston and then Grand Forks. She was a television news anchor in Minot, and also has worked in radio marketing. She was a media specialist for the Office of Public Information at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck for two years.

Hegland-Thorpe is a citizen of the Spirit Lake Nation and most recently worked as a consultant organizing native and cultural heritage tourism in North Dakota—working with representatives from all five of the state’s sovereign nations. She has a degree in broadcasting from Minot State University.

Prairie Public Broadcasting, headquartered in Fargo, is a non-profit organization and community licensee that provides public television services throughout North Dakota, northwestern Minnesota, southern Manitoba, and parts of Montana and South Dakota, and public radio service to North Dakota. In addition to broadcasting services, Prairie Public Broadcasting provides a wide range of educational and technological services to communities and individuals across its coverage area.
