Singers from across Minnesota, including the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon Choir, will be featured in PBS’s upcoming broadcast of Sing Democracy 250, an initiative commemorating America’s 250th birthday.
The 90-minute concert, recorded April 12 at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, will air on Prairie Public and nationwide on Friday, September 25, at 8 p.m. CT. The performance brought together nearly 200 singers from Minnesota, along with the Twin Cities’ Together In Hope Choir and a 60-piece orchestra.
The MSUM Dragon Choir was among several Minnesota-based ensembles participating in the performance, joining the Together In Hope Choir, St. Scholastica Chamber Choir of Duluth, Choral Arts Ensemble Singers of Rochester, Honors Choirs of SE Minnesota, and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra – all under the direction of G. Phillip Shoultz, III.
The program features the world premiere of “Fanfare: Democracy 250” by Steven Amundson, Music Director of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and long-time conductor of the St. Olaf Orchestra; as well as newly commissioned works “Redeem the Dream” by Brandon A. Boyd and “US” by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm.

“Sing Democracy 250” is part of PBS America @ 250, a multiyear celebration of U.S. history, culture, and children’s programming that began in spring 2025 and continues through 2026 and beyond.
