MAY 11, 2026 (N.D.) — Prairie Public will air a North Dakota-focused episode of the new PBS series “American Muslims: A History Revealed” on Monday, May 18, at 8 p.m.
The documentary series, airing May 11 and May 18, explores the early history of Muslims in the United States, and uncovers stories that span more than 200 years of American history. Hosted by journalists Malika Bilal, Aymann Ismail, and Asma Khalid, the series travels across the country to reveal often-overlooked stories of Muslim communities and their contributions to American life.
In the episode “A Mosque on the Prairies,” airing May 18 at 8 p.m., host Aymann Ismail travels to Ross, North Dakota, where Muslim homesteaders from present-day Lebanon settled in the early 1900s and built what is believed to be one of the first purpose-built mosques in the United States. Ismail also visits the State Historical Society of North Dakota in Bismarck to explore the community’s lasting impact on Muslim-American history.
Viewers can watch “American Muslims: A History Revealed” on Prairie Public on Mondays, May 11 and May 18, at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., or stream episodes online through the free PBS app.
