Course Description

Amplify your students’ voices and your lessons with media! This self-paced online class from Prairie Public Education Services allows you to choose your own adventure and explore how to use video production, podcasting, and social media in the classroom. 

Whether you teach media, English, or history; elementary, middle school, or high school; have a smartphone camera or a full editing suite, this workshop will equip you with the knowledge, tools, and resources to get your students reading, analyzing, and creating media in the classroom. Empower students to create and help them demonstrate their thinking.

The course is FREE and open to educators of all grades, subjects, and experience levels!

Objectives:

  • Practice strategies to help them teach students how to analyze all types of texts and media
  • Explore resources to support their use of media in the classroom
  • Play with tech tools and apps that support media creation in the classroom
  • Create a lesson plan, activity or unit engaging students in the creation of media

About the Instructor

Darcy Bakkegard, M.A., is an English/Theatre teacher and professional development coach who got tired of traditional sit-n-get PD. Now she creates the type of professional development she always wanted. 

With 10 years of experience teaching English and Theatre, Darcy specializes in interactive strategies for the classroom, meaningful tech integration, and building relationships with students. Darcy is an ISTE Certified Educator, an experienced international presenter, and an empowerer of teachers. She loves helping teachers rekindle their spark for teaching and helping them make PD meaningful.

Darcy will be assisted throughout the duration of Amplifying Student Voices by several educators, including Prairie Public Education Services staff.
